Persian cat is an old breed of domestic cat. Like other longhair cats, Persian cat is native to the Middle East and it probably originates from Persia (Iran). Italian nobleman Pietro Della Valle, who was traveling throughout the Middle East during the 1620, brought Persian cat to Europe in the 17th century. More than 2 centuries later, Persian cat has been introduced to the USA. Persian cat is one of the most popular cats in the world today because of its beautiful, soft fur and pleasant personality. Thanks to these qualities, it is also inevitable part of various cat shows.

Persian cat is medium-sized cat that can reach 7 to 12 pounds of weight. Aside from regular size, there are toy and tea-cup sized varieties of Persian cat.
Persian cat has long, thick, shiny fur that is available in more than 80 colors. The most popular are white, silver, cream, blue, lilac, chocolate, orange, grey and bi-colored (white in combination with some other color).
Persian cat has big head, short, round face, big eyes, short nose, small, rounded ears, stocky body, short legs with large, round paws and short tail.
Small nose and flat muzzle of Persian cat are result of selective breeding. "Doll-face" Persian cats have more pronounced nose, but they are less popular than Persian cats with flat face (known as "peke-face").
Despite its aloof appearance, Persian cat likes people and it is friendly by nature. It is often described as docile, quiet and sweet.
Persian cat is not suitable for noisy households. It is an excellent choice for peaceful families.
Persian cat likes to sit in the lap and enjoys to be petted. It also likes to play with catnip mouse and feather teaser. Persian cat does not climb on the kitchen counters, refrigerators and curtains. Persian cat has an average lifespan of 10 to 15 years.
